There is a smell that comes out of a good bakery at about seven in the morning, before the doors are even open. Warm sugar, something frying, vanilla, a bit of spice. It gets into your coat and follows you down the street. The Bakery blend is our attempt to keep that smell going in your kitchen long after the last donut is gone, and it takes exactly two scents to do it.
The pairing is Jam Donut and Vanilla Caramel. On their own they are both lovely. Together they turn into something that smells like a Sunday morning that has no plans and no rush.
Jam Donut brings the fun. It is raspberry jam and strawberry over malt and buttermilk, finished with cinnamon sugar and vanilla bean. It smells like the real thing, right down to the sugar on your fingers. Vanilla Caramel is the grown-up in the pair: caramel, vanilla, coconut and tonka bean, warm and round and smooth. One is playful, the other is comforting, and that is exactly why they work.
How to build the blend
This is a wax melt blend, so it lives on your warmer. Pop one cube of each into the dish and let them melt together. The fragrance builds through the first hour, and as it does the jam and the caramel start to fold into each other until you cannot quite tell where one ends and the other begins. When it eases off, give the warm pool a gentle stir to lift it again.
Start with an even split, one cube each. If you want it more like fresh jam donuts, add a little more Jam Donut. If you want it warmer and more dessert-like, lean on the Vanilla Caramel. There is no wrong answer here, only the version your kitchen likes best.
Using a tea light oil burner? Never leave the flame unattended, and keep it away from children and pets. For a kitchen you drift in and out of, an electric warmer is the easier and safer pick. To swap melts, warm the dish briefly until the wax separates and pop it out in one piece. Never pour hot wax.

One cube Jam Donut plus one cube Vanilla Caramel on the warmer. Adjust to taste. That is the whole recipe.
